Patricia Chatelain
Artist Statement
Patricia Chatelain is a native to the New Orleans area who recently returned after living in Arizona and California for many years. She has a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Louisiana State University, and a Master's Degree in Fine Arts in Sculpture and Ceramics from Arizona State University. She has worked in the Phoenix and Los Angeles areas in various artistic fields, as a ceramics instructor, a freelance sculptor and prop maker, and as a designer for The Walt Disney Company. She was a member of the Glendale Arts Association, exhibiting at White's Fine Arts Gallery and other Association venues while in California.
Her work is inspired by natural surroundings, and is primarily landscapes or seascapes, beginning as plein air sketches, watercolors or oil pastels while hiking or boating in the field, and then finished as oil paintings or encaustic on panels in the studio. She began working with encaustic and wax finishes while in Arizona and has experimented with the medium on various materials and substrates over the years.
