Jami Rose Lord Artist Statement
As a plein air and studio landscape oil painter, I work directly with the shifting character of the natural world. Mountains, forests, lakes, and rivers shape my practice, each offering its own rhythm, structure, and quiet challenges. I am especially drawn to the way light moves across these forms — how it reveals, obscures, and transforms the land from one moment to the next. That constant change fuels my work and keeps me returning to the same places with fresh eyes.
Painting outdoors allows me to respond to the landscape in real time, capturing the immediacy of color and atmosphere before they slip away. In the studio, I refine those impressions from photos I have taken, distilling them into compositions that hold onto the clarity and energy of the original experience. My aim is simple: to create paintings that open a space for stillness and connection. I want viewers to feel the quiet pull of a flowing creek, the calm weight of a forest, or the brief spark of light that defines a single moment in nature.
Each painting is an invitation to step into these spaces — to pause, look closely, and experience the landscapes that continue to inspire and challenge me.
