Konrad Dunton

Artist Statement

My figurative work is a meditation on the depth and beauty of the human spirit. It helps me transcend the immediate visual experience into the depths of the human condition. I often employ our human-made environments to express the complexities of our existence (representing needs, fears, dreams, etc...). As such, the surroundings become figurative, and extensions of our human form, dynamic and revealing of our inner workings.

My career path spans both traditional and digital art forms, creating sculptural and digital works for film, games, and traditional art. As faculty member at San Jose State University, I taught computer graphics, and at San Francisco City College, sculpture, ceramics, painting, and digital art. In my own work, I am expressive in a variety of media, including clay, steel, bronze, fiberglass, ceramics, stone, wood, synthetic clay, and glass.

I love creating and teaching art; currently, in addition to my studio practice, I teach at and run Fort Mason Artists, a nonprofit art school in Glen Park. (ftmasonartists.org)
