Artist Statement

Artist bio:
Kathleen Shandraw is an artist born, living, and working in Western New York. Her work experience has been often and varied from bricklayer, to preschool teacher, to sign painter. She attended Emily Carr (College) University of Art + Design, 1984-1987, majoring in 3D Design in Vancouver, B.C., Ganada, and has a BS in Art Education from Daemen University, Amherst, NY. She has been exhibiting her paintings locally since 2019. She is a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, Carnegie Art Center, Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center, and Big Orbit Gallery. Artist statement:
I create contemporary figurative acrylic paintings that incorporate large swaths of color and linear drawing on canvas. My work is primarily influenced by family, photos, and other reference materials, exploring the emotional, social, and physical ties with the subjects. tell stories through color, line, and patterns.
