Artist Statement

Artist statement

As a figurative sculptor, I am deeply immersed in the exploration of shared experiences through the profound language of visual storytelling. My artistic journey is driven by a passionate commitment to amplifying the voices of African communities worldwide that often remain overlooked or underrepresented. Through sculptural expression, I explore the rich tapestry of cultural narratives and even farther into the intricate relationships that bind us together as a diaspora.

Central to my practice is an understanding of the physicality of sculpture and its unique capacity to immortalize ideas. Each piece I create serves as a conduit for the exploration of cultural identities, traditions, and historical references as I weave together narratives that speak to the essence of African heritage and resilience. By engaging with my sculptures, audiences are invited to embark on a journey of discovery, where they can uncover layers of meaning and symbolism. Through this process, I hope to foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of the diverse narratives that shape the African experience.

Ultimately, my aim as an artist is to challenge perceptions, provoke thought, and spark conversations about the complexities of cultural identity. Through the medium of sculpture, I strive to celebrate the beauty and diversity of African heritage while shedding light on the shared experiences that unite us all as part of a global community.
