Artist Statement

My work celebrates beauty but also reflects the practice of faithfulness. Faithfulness to the craft and the act of creating is why I put any mark on a surface.
I have been painting since 1996, discovering the awesome movement of paint under a brush has won me over time and time again. As I explored more cloudy skies and wooded areas I found that the touch of gold leaf captured that magic only gold can. The challenge I've given myself recently is the medium of colored pencils. Their presence in my backpack and on my bedside table makes the faithfulness of creating that much more accessible.
We need light to live to the fullest. We need fresh air to enliven our senses. We need the birdsong, the dirt moving under our feet. We need creation to remind us how much God loves us and how important it is to Him to create.
