Artist Statement

My botanical art explores the intersection of art, nature, and science through the medium of cyanotype. My love of art began with a background in ballet, which after five decades, has honed in me a deep appreciation for ephemeral beauty. It has also provided me with a highly tuned sense of line and form. It is this perspective that became the foundation and inspiration for my current practice in visual art.

I create classic cyanotypes, using a process that dates back to the 1800s. A mix of chemistry, sunlight, botanicals, and (collected) rainwater combine to transform light-sensitive paper into blue and white-hued prints. I also employ the more modern/experimental technique of wet cyanotype, allowing me the freedom to manipulate the printmaking process to create more abstract compositions with a range of effects - ranging from subtle tonal variations to bold, graphic patterns.

Through my artwork I invite viewers to soak in the beauty of the world around us - while at the same time contemplating the transient nature of our lives, and the importance of taking care of our planet.
