Artist Statement

My work explores the devastating consequences of human actions on nature, from the eradication of plants and animals caused by deforestation, pollution, habitat destruction, to other forms of environmental harm. Working in painting, printmaking, and digital, I incorporate a diverse range of artistic expressions to reflect on the evolving relationship between humanity and nature, creating compositions drawn from my imagination, art history, and photographic source material. The paintings were inspired in part by artists like Thomas Hart Benton and Roger Brown, who worked with abstraction to depict landscapes using bold brushstrokes and color. Additionally, I incorporate texture to emphasize elements like fire, waves, and sludge and enhance the dynamic sense of chaos. The relief prints place human figures at the forefront of the composition, symbolizing the ways we have altered and endangered the natural world.
Nature remains a powerful force, both fragile and resilient. There is a delicate balance between humanity and the natural world, a constant push and pull of creation and destruction. Through my work, I explore this balance, encouraging viewers to reflect on our role in this narrative and consider the impact we have made on our climate.
