Rosa Mannion
Artist Statement
In my work, I try to capture a sense of the ephemeral, shifting, swarming, diverging movement of life. I am fascinated by the interplay of color and the materials of art-making, and I watch entranced as the process unfolds on the paper through the direction of my body, seeking to use the media as a way to express the complexity of the seen and unseen movement of life on earth. I often create paintings in groups of three, using the same palettes, paints, and materials and allowing each painting to chart its own course.
I have practiced as a landscape architect for about twenty years. The creation of landscapes is about editing existing space, welcoming change over time, predicting and observing how people, animals and plants adapt and move through a landscape. This sense of dynamism, movement and adaptation is something I explore in my paintings.
