Artist Statement

In a world that rarely pauses for dreams, my work seeks to awaken the possibility of places that exist just beyond memory; spaces of profound beauty and calm where everything we need already exists. My paintings create windows into these imagined sanctuaries, inviting viewers to recall their own capacity for wonder. Working with light as both medium and metaphor, I craft spaces that hover between what is tangible and dreamed, deliberately leaving room for personal discovery and contemplation.

My artistic vision is deeply influenced by my upbringing in California as the child of Chinese immigrants. The misty northern coastline's ethereal quality and the stark light of the southern desert have become fundamental elements of my visual language. These natural landscapes merge with the aesthetic principles I absorbed from traditional Chinese art, particularly the ability to convey profound meaning through minimal gestures.

My process begins in pure intuition, with translucent layers of color glazes that create depth and atmosphere. From these foundations, structure gradually emerge; forms and spaces revealing themselves through the interplay of light and shadow. This approach reflects my belief that the most compelling art arises when we allow structure to grow organically from exploration rather than imposing it from the start. Each finished piece reflects this journey of discovery, where the final composition is as much revealed as it is created.
