Artist Statement

This artist has reduced spending her time on her calling : providing mental health therapy, to devote time to her passion: ART.
St. Louis has stamped its imprint on the artist for over seven decades. Here she was born, raised, educated, and earned a doctoral degree at St. Louis University. Pickett is second of seven children, mother of three, and grandmother of nine. She and her husband live in South St. Louis County.
Professionally, as a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) and a social/emotional intelligence certified coach (SEICC), many clients call Pickett “Dr. Patt.” She has served the needs of coaching/counseling clients during more than 30,000 sessions throughout the past 40 years.
To date, Pickett has have published four self-help books including: The Marriage Whisperer and Keep Strong Together (with a companion coloring book). and has an exciting title in process on emotional intelligence with 300+ emotional intelligence wise quips she discovered during her professional work and presented to clients as inspirations. Her wisdom is enhanced by her earlier career experiences during over a dozen years as a government parole officer.
Throughout childhood, Pickett dabbled in artwork and was considered talented. but never encouraged to pursue training. In mid-life, her passion and artistic ability re-emerged and began steadily creating and filled home walls with 70+ paintings and built a private gallery and large art studio. The artist’s work is neither traditional nor mainstream and is triggered by instinct and evolves slowly from feeling and thought. Purpose is not transparent. The meaning is the viewer’s discovery. Decades of professional therapy services to others has imparted in her work an acute sensitive to similarities and differences: balance/imbalance, change/stability, confusion/clarity, power/submission, her calling as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, she is ramping up her time and energy to pursue her passion---creating art.
