Artist Statement

ARTIST STATEMENT
Plush Gem Art creates natural gemstone mixed media artwork that studies beauty and valuation. The tapestry art uses gemstones as an instrument to fashion visual art on a fabric canvas. The box board art is scribble drawings on repurposed packaging materials that hold representational meaning with a hidden gemstone and a complex artist signature. Fabric sculptures are textile pieces assembled to create three dimensional art.
Gemstone Tapestry work is gemstone line art style illustrations on textiles. The gemstones vary in size, facet, carat weight, stone type and color. The medium the gemstones are displayed on is Satin Organza. This allows for the sparkle of the gemstones not be hindered and adds a shimmer from the fabric. The artist finds it pleasing to assemble odd found objects to create unique, artistic and luxurious artwork.
The box board work is the artist's notion of scribble line art. The instruments used are permanent marker, mailing supplies, organza fabrics and a minuscule faceted Diamond. The complex signature is a acknowledgment of an artist personal frustrations with details outside of the actual process of creating. The artwork is reminiscent of free style drawings for pleasure.
The fabric sculptures use complete freedom of material and process. The organzas are sewn together and never cut. The pieces are sewn into the needed sizes until the sculpture takes on the desired shape. The artist's first thought of design is sewing fabric, much like clothing, to create a sculpture.
