Artist Statement

About:

Raine Schweikert (b. 1987) is an autistic visual artist and art model from Los Angeles, now based in Thailand.

Her work explores emotion, perception, and sensation through imagery that moves between intimate human experience and the broader presence of life across deep time. Through loose, liminal line work and soft atmospheres, her work reflects how experience takes form, blurring the boundary between interior worlds and the surrounding environment.

Her subjects range from contemplative human figures to depictions of prehistoric life.

Artist Statement:

My work explores emotional states, sensation, and the experience of time through imagery that exists in a state of transition. I am interested in liminal moments, where something is shifting but not yet fully formed, and where perception feels fluid rather than fixed.

I move between figurative subjects and depictions of prehistoric life, using both as a way to consider presence across different scales of time. While the human figure allows for intimate emotional expression, prehistoric life evokes a sense of awe and continuity, emphasizing that these distant beings were once as vital and vulnerable as we are. Through this connection, I aim to extend a sense of sensitivity and care beyond the present moment.

My process is guided by feeling, gesture, and atmosphere. I work with line and color in a way that resists full resolution, allowing forms to remain slightly in flux, as if caught within an ongoing movement.

I hope the work invites a sense of gentleness and an appreciation for imperfection, offering a space where emotion can be felt without needing to be fully defined.
