Artist Statement

Sarah O’Brien is a suburban artist located near Philadelphia who recently unveiled a new series after taking a break from creating art since her graduation in 2017. Growing up in southern Illinois, she draws inspiration from landscapes, architecture, and skies. The subject matter in this series reflects her childhood memories and conveys the connection between the limitless landscapes of her past and the emotional landscapes of the present.

My paintings are existential searches; I’m driven to create but haven’t found what I seek. While searching, I focus on technical skill. Subject matter entirely depends on the moment I start. Some are plein air paintings, others may be more abstract. It is a balance of play and growth in my skill.
