Charla Perry

Artist Statement

Charla M. Perry is a multi-media artist who was born and raised in Washington, D.C. and currently living in Covington, Kentucky. With a current focus on abstract images, shapes and vibrant colors, her work navigates the starry expanses of the subconscious, often filled with images of constellations, dreams, the cosmic universe and the swirling mysteries of the galaxy.
She has taught High school French at Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts and worked several years in the publishing industry in New York and in Chicago. She has also worked in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles.
Although she has worked in traditional representational art, she has also ventured into a new style of Abstract art, and it has since blossomed into a large collection. Her works have been shown in juried shows and in gallery exhibitions in Renton, Washington; Stamford, Connecticut; Surprise, Arizona; Ware, Massachusetts; Covington, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio as well as in various private collections.
Beyond the canvas, Charla's creative spirit bloomed through the pages of "The Exciting Travels of Tuffie and Giuseppe," a children's book she both illustrated and wrote. This heartwarming tale of two adventurous friends, a tortoise and a giraffe, showcases another facet of her artistic universe.
A graduate of Oberlin College with a degree in French and Studio Art, Charla further expanded her creative horizons by earning an M.F.A. in Screenwriting from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.
Today, she crafts art that invites viewers to unlock their own imaginations. Her paintings, evocative of galaxies and swirling nebulae embark on fantastical journeys through the vibrant kaleidoscope of dreams, past, present, and future. Her work invites the viewer to come along, dive in and explore.
