Artist Statement

I am a multidisciplinary non-representational artist based in New York City, with roots in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, and Kona, Hawaii.

I work with stretched and unstretched canvas, fabric, paper, string, wood, and metal, infusing or applying paint to many of the surfaces. My process often involves tearing, cutting, and reassembling these materials through gluing and stitching.

By embracing spontaneity over logic and saying yes to impulse, I create dynamic, textural compositions. The act of surprising myself with the worlds that emerge from the brushstrokes, the gouging of tools, the interplay of colors, and the convergence of edges brings me profound satisfaction. This unpredictable journey of creation lies at the core of my artistic practice.

The works I am submitting for this exhibition are part of a 2025 series I call 'The Thread of our Common Humanity'.

When I create art, I make no conscious effort to communicate anything directly: no image, no idea, no emotion. What I am doing, consciously, is working to a point of visual satisfaction.

That visual satisfaction holds all of my life experience. It can't help but be revealed in the art. And when that art also satisfies a viewer, I know that I have managed to touch the thread of our common humanity.

In our polarized world, where divisiveness is the norm, it feels important to find a thread that can bring us together.
