Artist Statement

Morgan Suter (b.1998) is a painter and draftsperson composing high-chroma figurescapes entirely from imagination. These compositions comprise layers of humanoid forms (grotesque beasts, leggy bimbo butterflies with breasts, hyper-feminine bodies, floating heads with tendrils, rainbow worms, personified fish) playing in a realm of ambiguous space and pictorial excess. These paintings evoke sensations of joy, disgust, shame, euphoria, and sensuality. Lushness is formed through an intuitive process of pushing and pulling figure-ground from a central gray into dynamic color rhythms. Chubby, waxing, and waning shapes groove in a psychosensual disco; these figures are free and tethered. Always seeking, these compositions find catharsis in vulnerability. These paintings wade through the complexities of human feeling, embody plasticity, and spiritualize hedonism.
