Cornelia Huellstrunk

Artist Statement

The artist was born in Rome, Italy in 1969. She has lived, studied, and worked in seven countries spanning multiple European countries, the US and India absorbing cultures, languages, traditions along the way. While originally drawn to collage and sculpture as her artistic mediums, she discovered printmaking 15 years ago, and hasn't looked back. Printmaking especially monotypes have empowered her to express her experiences and emotions visually through color, layering, patterns. She is fascinated by transience and movement, themes appearing in all her work. For her, art making is a spiritual practice. Her strongest work results when she is fully present, conversing with a piece and simply following the marks.

Beyond printmaking, the artist leads a design and innovation center at Princeton University. Outside of her professional work, she spends every possible moment either in Santa Fe, NM, learning with other printmakers or in her Dogwood Hill studio in Princeton NJ.
