Artist Statement

Landscapes are what ground me in this world. I feel a security in seeing jagged edges of a mountain profile and gentle undulations of an ocean current. Envisioning landscapes I'm unfamiliar with gives me the thrill of exploration. In this world of concrete, the thing I crave most is to sink my feet firmly to find roots and explore the land that bares us.

My images follow this pull and are informed by nearly 3 decades of working and living outside as a field biologist, educator and outdoor adventurer.
I like the juxtaposition of using a rigid medium like sheet glass to create the curves of a river. It is the metaphor for working hard to find softness. The grueling ache of sitting meditation that leads to bliss. I enjoy the laborious path through the craftsmanship of stained glass that leads to the brilliant sunlit image of escape to another world.
This is my attempt at maintaining that precious connective thread to the true physical world from which we come.
