Kaaren Lobel

Artist Statement

A lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area, Kaaren Lobel began pursuing jewelry as a hobby in the 1980’s, taking classes at Cheltenham Art Center, in Cheltenham, PA. Inspired by metal as a medium, Kaaren studied both metal smithing and metal sculpting.

Jewelry making quickly took first place, and Kaaren continued to hone her skills, taking courses at Moore College of Art, The University of the Arts, Tyler, Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, and The Penland School of Crafts in Ashville, NC.

Patterning the metal using screens, laces, paper and fabrics, Kaaren works in sterling silver, copper and semi-precious stones. Kaaren’s art reflects her love of geometric forms combined in creative designs which are simple and sophisticated.

Kaaren’s work has been sold locally and internationally. She has also been involved in numerous craft fairs in the Philadelphia area.

All of Kaaren’s work is hand crafted in her home-based studio in Center City Philadelphia.
