Artist Statement

CHRIS CHARRON – BIOGRAPHY and ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Since 2010 I have been entering and participating in gallery shows in the Detroit area. Galleries have included The Grosse Pointe Artists Association, Detroit Artist’s Market, The Anton Art Center, Lawerence Street Gallery, The Voyeur Bordello and many others. “Self-taught” describes my training in photography. My artistic philosophy is that “I take a lot of pictures and occasionally I take a photograph.” When asked what I take pictures of, my standard response has been “I shoot what I see.”

Many photographers would agree that light – or lack thereof – is a key element of their work. As I have developed as a photographer I became increasingly intrigued by the manipulation of both color and light. My ongoing series entitled “Bending Light,” has been described as painting with a camera.

My hometown, Detroit, is a most photogenic city – warts and all. And our beautiful home state of Michigan, no matter where you happen to be, is also photogenic.

I am a member of the Grosse Pointe Art Association, the Mt. Clemens Art Association, the Lakeside Palette Club, and the Detroit Artists Market. My volunteer work includes Swords into Plowshares Peace Center and Gallery as the Finance Committee Co-chair. I also volunteer at the Anton Art Center. And I am the Secretary for the GPAA board. I was also a charter member of the Eastpointe Arts and Cultural Diversity Commission resigning my position in 2022.

Born and raised in Detroit, I now live in Eastpointe with my wife, Linda, and Henry (our cat). I retired from AT&T and enjoy photographing our travels.
