Artist Statement

As a Vietnamese American artist, I create sculptures that explore memory, belonging, and the relationship between craft and contemporary technology. My work is informed by my experience navigating between cultures, carrying memories of my birthplace while adapting to life in the United States. Through sculpture, I investigate how personal histories, cultural displacement, and emotional resilience can be transformed into tangible forms.
Wood is the foundation of my practice, as I see it as a living material that records time and change. My process involves joinery, repetition, and the construction of patterned structures. Through disciplined practice, I combine wood with found objects, acrylic, resin, motors, sensors, and digital techs to merge craftsmanship with innovation. I explore stillness and motion, fragility and strength, structure and uncertainty. Repetitive and kinetic forms let me show how stability arises from complexity and care from material processes. Many sculptures use meaningful materials, turning everyday objects into vessels of memory.
Growing up in a modest home taught me resourcefulness and to see beauty in overlooked materials, shaping my focus on sustainability, craftsmanship, and material sensitivity. My work encourages viewers to slow down, reflect, and consider how memory, labor, and cultural identity influence our view of ourselves and the world.
