Artist Statement

After a career spanning nearly forty years in higher education, I retired in 2020 in the middle of the global pandemic and unexpectedly began a second journey — this time behind the lens of a camera.

What started as a way to safely explore the outdoors during lockdown quickly became both a passion and an obsession. I immersed myself in learning photography through countless hours of study, experimentation, and practice, with wildlife — especially birds — becoming my primary focus. Through photography, I discovered an entirely new way of seeing. The camera revealed intricate feather detail, subtle behaviors, fleeting expressions, and moments of connection often invisible to the naked eye.

Photography has also become deeply intertwined with my lifelong love of travel and exploration. Having visited all seven continents and much of the world, I am continually drawn to the wildest and most remote places — environments where nature still feels untamed and extraordinary. These experiences inspire my work and fuel my curiosity about the natural world.

Although I do not come from a formal artistic background, I have embraced modern photographic technologies and techniques as tools for creative expression. My style, however, remains grounded in authenticity. I strive to create images that honor the natural beauty, behavior, and spirit of the wildlife and places I encounter.

For me, photography is not simply about documenting what I see; it is about sharing moments of wonder, connection, and discovery that might otherwise go unnoticed.
