Artist Statement

Claire Holloway grew up in Oklahoma City, minutes away from the fairgrounds and ranches that inspire her work. Claire’s education began after visiting the Prix de West Exhibition at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 2015. Inspired by her visit, Claire then attended the Oklahoma Academy of Classical Art to learn the fundamentals of painting from life. During her five years of study at the Academy, she also took workshops with the notable wildlife artists Edward Aldrich and Greg Beecham. In the spring of 2021, she received a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Oklahoma. There she met Paul Moore, who has been her mentor ever since.

Claire’s current focus is the relationships between humans and animals in the west. Whether it is the bond between a herding dog and its owner, or the tension between big game animals and hunting dogs, Claire aims to capture the essence of these encounters and honor her subjects.
