Frank Pishkur
Artist Statement
Primarily working with stoneware clay, my creative research focuses on creating textured, ceramic art glazed with an ever-expanding palette of celadon glazes (which utilize the subtle effects on iron as a colorant in the glaze melt). These works range from functional pottery, non-functional sculptures that reference pottery, relief panels, and other sculptural forms (often including casting processes). These build upon both my prior residence in South Korea, extended visits to Sweden and the influence of the British Studio Pottery movement upon contemporary American ceramics. This is all balanced by my mid-western American upbringing and sensibilities.
