Jamie Graham

Artist Statement

Jamie Graham is a textile, ceramic, photography, and mixed media artist. After being a massage therapist and acupuncturist for many years, textile art became her life passion when she had a vision of a textile piece during meditation. Much of her work centers on her connection to nature. She loves getting her hands “in the mud” with ceramics. Watching a piece transform from plain white fabric or a lump of clay to a work of art fascinates and amazes her with the mystery of creation. Photography is another passion. She learned to capture moments in time as an editor of a weekly newspaper with a small staff. She learned the fascination of watching a print develop in the dark room and then the brilliance of digital photography.
She loves doing mixed media. It adds dimension and interest to a piece. Rough ceramic pieces combine well with the softness of fabric and the rustic aesthetic of rusted metal.
She also does sculptural work, making whimsical and humorous pieces; from gooney birds to cats, dogs, and humans in whimsical scenarios. Her favorite piece to date in this style is a funny snail with a look of amusement on his face.
In printmaking, she uses a gel plate and incorporates fabric, stitching, photographic images, painting, and colored pencil into this medium.
