Artist Statement

Touching and molding clay has been a healing outlet for me since the beginning of my journey as an artist and a potter after having served many years as a product manager at an advanced biosciences company. The art often takes me back to when I was just a little girl, playing house with my friends outdoors and imitating a mother in the kitchen all the while employing dirt and the broken pieces from abandoned clay pots in the process. Recurring my childhood memories through my pottery is healing and one of my favorite reasons why I am passionate about my clay art. The beauty of clay artwork is in its creation from zero to figure, soft to strong, plain to rich through the various forms and stories that each piece of art carries in revealing my personal journey to create. the work is called into use in our everyday lives. I often get inspired with new design ideas while utilizing these valuable everyday

As a potter and a ceramic artist, I?m passionate about building pieces with functionality: cups, bowls, plates, vases, saucers, tea pot, etc. I believe that the moment I intend to create functionality in a piece commences the beginning of its life cycle. Upon its completion, the work is called into use in our everyday lives. I often get inspired with new design ideas while utilizing these valuable everyday pieces in my life.

The simple ceramic material that come from the ground and become shapes and figures before our eyes lends us a feeling of serenity and security. Extensive and dedicated handwork is honed and practiced on my sculptures to exhibit the tenacity and delicacies of human life and the perception of our senses. They narrate a story of home, of loving, and of a longing that is part of my present life living away from my hometown in the East. I also enjoy making small sculptures of animals such as birds, cats, dogs, and whales. Every touch from my fingers and every second I dedicate to my art profess my desire to love the wholesome journey that is life.
