Artist Statement

Artist Statement:
An entity surrounded by their environment is a universal concept, whether it is from what we call reality or in the realm of the sub-conscience. In my work, I explore bio-morphic forms accompanied by images based on memories of place that create surrealistic landscapes and tell a story. Largely autobiographical in nature I implore universal concepts such as being, knowing, substance, identity, time, and space. Through the juxtaposition of memories, I construct an abstract tableau. The reality is often ambiguous, whimsical yet thought provoking. I am creating surrealistic atmospheres about the human existence.
My work is about thinking, feeling, and comprehending on a sub conscious level. I compose stories though color, texture, and form. Each piece is a journey which starts with one brush stroke and then builds upon that one mark with each additional layer. I let the scene unfold as I work. It is spontaneous action while a broader theme is conceptualized the individual pieces take on a life of their own in a meditative process.
