Artist Statement

Since I retired from teaching art in 2001, my media of choice has been exclusively soft pastels. That was until I was introduced to a concentrated, crystalized, water color media called "Brusho". I was intrigued by the intensity of the color and the freedom it offered me. Later I came across iridized water colors. The two together created a captivating combination. When I paint with these media, I allow the color to set the stage and then use the iridized water colors to define the shapes and some line. Then I finish off the details with black marker pen. The result is a lively, dynamic combination that allows me to tell a story of fantasy and optomism.
