Artist Statement

Last fall I embarked on a series of larger still life paintings that reflect my work with and aspirations for a productive and fulfilling relationship with growing things. Starting with amaranth plumes ("Love Lies Bleeding" from the language of flowers), to the ponderous harvest of cucurbits of last fall, to the setting out of indoor bulbs, I tried to capture their essence. They were each engrossing in their own way and “Cucurbits Season” seemed especially haunting.
