Jason Pritchard
Artist Statement
I work in oil to explore atmosphere, space, and a sense of connection to the outdoors. My process begins on site, where I paint en-plein air studies and gather visual references that inform larger studio works.
Returning to a location is central to the practice - it allows me to register the specific conditions of light, weather, and season, and to translate that experience into color, gesture, and composition. The paintings are not direct transcriptions, but responses shaped by memory and attention.
I am particularly interested in how shifting skies and coastal light can alter the character of a place. Through an impressionistic approach, I aim to heighten these moments, using color and brushwork to convey the underlying rhythm and mood of the landscape.
