Artist Statement

I have combined my love of words and of visual art to create works that are poetic/informative, yet do not take away from the beauty of the other. My artwork reflects my love of nature and animals. Often my work will be of birds, cats, and dogs, but I've also been known to portray frogs, squirrels, groundhogs, and people. My favorite mediums to use are acrylics or pastels, and sometimes I combine both in mixed media pieces. I've recently been fascinated by florals. No matter what my subject, I believe that the eyes reveal personality - one might believe that a bird is a bird is a bird, or that every cat is just a cat - but no! Each one is unique and I try my best to find the essence of each subject I portray in my artwork. My work is all done freehand, so the birds, cats, and other subjects you see are all ones that I have done studies of by going to bird sanctuaries, or by doing observations in my own backyard or in my home studio.
