Artist Statement

I love to paint and I love color. I love the way it balances out my art and am drawn to subjects because of the color. My work is eclectic, varied and unified by nature themes, including but not limited to landscapes, trees, animals. I work from ideas that allow me to be creative, working first with values, balancing them to create a composition and adding color to complete it. Both in my studio and outdoors, I find that I stay engaged and in practice. Plein air and Urban Sketches are part of my weekly practices along with life drawing. These activities also keep me in touch with my contmporaries.
.Most of my work is representational and I enjoy using different painting mediums. (watercolor, acrylics and pastel).
The approaches with different mediums give me variety and helps me keep my artwork fresh and engaging. I find detail work to be so different with each medium. It challenges me and sometimes make me struggle.
I also have been influenced by my work as a teacher and and my freedom to travel.
Both have given me unique perspectives in choosing subjects, materials and trying new techniques.
My work is considered representational with a message or emotion, inviting my viewer to take away a sense of awe, sometimes a smile, and enjoyment of the process.
