Artist Statement

My life has been chronologically divided into two phases: before starting to paint - and - since starting to paint. I could never have anticipated the challenges of the learning process of making an oil painting. I've been awakened to the delight of observation and translating what I see in front of me and in my imagination. Combined with the physicality of being an artist, I've changed. As I've learned about technique and expression, I've also learned that there is so much more to learn. Combine this with my love for nature, history, architecture, and the figure, and I think I'll be living in phase two forever.
