Artist Statement

I am a multidisciplinary artist passionate about exploring the dynamics and beauty of nature's textures and colors which infuse my art with richness and movement and the complexity of line and tone. My use of a variety of art modalities is illustrative of my ceaseless awe of the exquisiteness of nature. I apply acrylic paints onto textured canvases to produce inspired abstract emotions and visions. I utilize the same approach in my ceramic art using the textured clay surface as a 3-D canvas, applying acrylic paints and washes to enhance the variety of designs I imprint onto the wet clay. My watercolor paintings are combined with tissue paper collage which provide subtle nuances and gradations mimicking the profound tones and patterns that nature provides. In the same way that I apply bold lines to outline specific patterns on my acrylic abstract paintings, I also apply pen and ink to my watercolors to exaggerate and express the movement and energy that has inspired me to create. My art is created to draw my audience into the beauty I experience and the hope that, regardless of our current culture of negativity, there is still plenty of hope and beauty in the world.
