Artist Statement

I am fascinated by formations in landscape and nature - not the big scenery, but details such as cracks, crevices and layers of rock; scars and imperfections; crumbling and decay; plant life gone to seed or at the end of its season. These are the things I find beautiful in our natural world. I want to capture that beauty and share it with others. For me, working in clay is the most direct way to accomplish this. Clay is a natural material constantly made by natural forces. I create simple forms and surfaces using low-fire clays and I fire using natural materials and a primitive firing technique.
