GWENDOLYN ROTH
PHOTOGRAPHER

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Award-winning Michigan photographer Gwendolyn Roth has exhibited extensively locally and internationally. She is primarily self-taught.
Gwendolyn grew up in an art-inspired family and attended Michigan State University, earning her degree in Landscape Architecture and subsequently practicing in that design field. Marriage and motherhood rekindled her passion for photography as she created a vast collection of family photos. Her husband's career took them to Europe for several years, where she amassed thousands more photographs of her family's time there - a self-imposed travel photography program, with husband and two babies in tow! These experiences taught Gwendolyn to see and compose quickly.

Ultimately fulfilling her roles as wife and mother-of-three, photography answered Gwendolyn’s most vexing question ever: now what? She jumped back into photography, embracing the enlightening transition from film to digital and never looked back.

When she is not photographing the world around her, Gwen volunteers her extra time by promoting local artists for the love of art. She is a board member for the Plymouth Community Arts Council and is Treasurer for Three Cities Art Club. She also curates the Gallery at City Hall, Westland, and actively participates in the Livonia Camera Club.
Total immersion in photography defines Gwendolyn’s role as an artist as she explores an endless evolution of technique and subject. She is especially fond of creating composites and digital abstracts to express her emotions as she discovers wonderment and joy with her camera.



ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a lifelong learner and avid photographer, gone digital, and I am passionate about the hidden glory surrounding us. My art is an adventure showcasing a viewpoint that uplifts, encourages or surprises the viewer. I strive to inspire self-awareness and environmental sensitivity, ultimately reaffirming hope and faith. Beauty is everywhere, even within ourselves, and it is my privilege to share this joy through my art.
