Artist Statement
I have always been inspired by color, light, and shapes in nature. My work is informed as much as possible through observation and painting from life, whether painting plein
air landscapes, still life, or figures. Through plein air painting, I strive to capture not just a single moment, but the atmosphere and feel of the day, examining the layers of color. I often make travel/ scenic sketches with colored pencils or watercolor/ink, then take these to the studio to create larger pieces in oil. I want to honor the relationship between the natural world and the human footprint, knowing that beauty can be sought and found. I hope my paintings can give the viewer a glimpse of place, space and time in a small corner of our world and evoke meaningful connection. -Susan Benigni-Landis
