Artist Statement

My work involves flowers in landscape, and landscape in flowers. Space becomes flower, and flower becomes space. With each stroke, I stay present in my body and use my felt sense. Then the flower/background relationship becomes blurred, as the background becomes interesting in itself and competes with the flower for importance. Gesture and dynamic juxtaposition are also relevant. I like to remember something I that struck me during the day, and bring to mind the feeling it elicited white I'm painting, conveying the sensation and essence of the experience. I try to answer the question, "What makes the ordinary extraordinary?"
