Kelly Miller
Artist Statement
I fabricate quirky jewelry based on repetition and mechanized patterns. I am selecting discarded materials and distinct color combinations and re-inventing these into geological stratum-like pieces. My methodology is consistent, fabricating using classic silversmithing techniques and merging them with alternative materials, then embedding natural relics throughout my practice.
I construct my works to present a view of the items I collect from my daily surroundings. I turn them into familiar artifacts, allowing the viewer to identify with them. My jewelry evokes a memory of a family vacation, a vintage polka dot dress, or an architectural site.
Layering each component allows me to reflect and relish in the memories the work conjures up for me. I strive to continue creating connections with our surroundings' past and present nature while sharing my experiences with the audience.
