Artist Statement

My sculptures deal with the transformation of an idea, emotion, and vision into a personal and symbolic vocabulary of form. I collect photos, personal memorabilia, everyday objects and unconventional organic materials and use them to create assemblages that have feminine references of beauty, aging, illness and grief. Multilayered colorful surfaces are both textural and dynamic, creating another level of interest. Gestures and various structural elements incorporated in these pieces build a personal portrait but then are intentionally obscured creating an implied narrative. Through formal composition and a sculptural art vocabulary these works are meant to operate on multiple levels inviting various interpretations depending on the viewer's experiences.
