Sustenance (inspired by food and culture)

Food is love. Food is fuel. Sharing a meal or drink is a way we bond and celebrate life's milestones, connect with our culture, and sustain and nourish our bodies and spirits. The Women's Caucus for Art of Greater Washington, DC (WCADC) invites women artists based in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia to submit work that is inspired by the human relationship with food, eating and drinking, and community. Depictions of groups eating and drinking, photos of important cultural cuisine, images of kitchens, portraits of chefs, or paintings of your favorite food memories are acceptable.

February 15, 2024

ELIGIBILITY
Women artists based in DC, Maryland, or Virginia are eligible to submit.

CATEGORIES ACCEPTED
Painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, collage, mixed media, hangable assemblage, and fiber art.

This exhibition cannot accept sculpture or works that require a pedestal, jewelry, video, film, performance art, or works requiring an external electrical source and installation.

NON-REFUNDABLE ENTRY FEE
Payment of $25 for Women's Caucus for Art members and $35 for non-members per entry. An entry consists of one to three pieces / images per submission. Credit card payment through PayPal only. WHY IS THERE A FEE?
A portion of all entry fees for this exhibition will be donated to WCADC's Visual Arts Scholarship which recognizes artistic excellence among 12th grade Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color (BIPOC) young women enrolled in a high school within the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia. ARTWORK MAXIMUM SIZE
2-Dimensional Work: no larger than 48 inches.

ARTWORK PRESENTATION
Artworks must arrive exhibition-ready. Art should be ready to hang with wire, D-rings or screw eyes, matted and framed, or with edges finished.

Wednesday, March 13, 2024 through Sunday, May 12, 2024 (8 weeks)

miXt Food Hall is a chef-driven culinary and cocktail experience for patrons to find community within an environment curated by local artisans. JUROR: The juror for this exhibition is to be determined.

IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS
Each JPG/PNG image file must be named with the artist's first_lastname_title (example: Vincent_Vangogh_Starrynight.jpg). Image file should not be larger than 5MB and 1400px wide. Images should be clear, good quality, and taken without frames or additional text added.

NOTIFICATION TO ARTISTS
February 23, 2024. All artists who have submitted artwork will be notified by email. The email will come from [email protected] with a follow up email from the WCADC Exhibitions Committee. You will receive notification even if no artwork has been selected. If you do not receive notice, please check your email spam or trash folder and contact WCADC.

HAND-DELIVER ARTWORK
All artwork must be hand-delivered between March 3 and March 9. Shipped artwork is not accepted for this exhibition. Artwork delivery must be pre-arranged and coordinated directly with gallery staff.

PICK-UP ARTWORK
Pick up artwork Monday, May 13 through Saturday, May 18, 2024. Pick-up must be pre-arranged and coordinated directly with gallery staff.

INSURANCE AND LIABILITY
Although every measure will be taken to ensure the safety of the work, the Artist(s) hereby agrees to hold miXt Food Hall and WCADC harmless from any personal physical injury or property loss or damage to Artists work, equipment, or supplies in connection with this exhibition.

SALE OF ART
miXt Food Hall receives a commission 15% commission when purchases are made by cash or check and 20% from all sales from credit and debit card purchases during or as a direct result of this exhibition.
