Please join us for Water Street Studio's Community Gallery's 'Telling Her Story' open call! Everyone is welcome to participate in our Community Gallery exhibits. All ages and backgrounds are welcome. Let's celebrate women, and also celebrate Women's Month, Earth Day & Mother's Day!
Who inspires your art and life, but is maybe not celebrated culturally. Do you know someone behind the scenes, or sometimes forgotten whose story resonates with you and we all should know? Whether it is Mythological Mother Nature, Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Jane Goodall, or your very own Aunt, show us artwork real or imagined inspired by who you admire and think deserves more recognition. This exhibition is an ode to the often unsung, mythological and legendary in your life!
Each participant will receive a small wood frame mirror to enhance paint and customize as the collaborative group project portion of the exhibition. All the mirrors will be combined to create a 'Mirror Wall' where we all can see our reflections in the context of all the art in the gallery and be part of the exhibit. There is something powerful about seeing one's own reflection in a mirror, what do we hope to see reflected back at us. Artists have long used mirrors to symbolize truth. It is impossible to gaze at your reflection and not hope to see something deeper, perhaps something new will be revealed.
Entry Details:
1. Media: Any and all. All 2D & 3D pieces are welcome! We love variety.
2. Fee: $25 (this also covers the cost of your submission and includes one mirrored wood frame to design for our Community Collaboration Art Project). More details will be sent to participants. These will be available for pick up starting February 2nd, 2024. **PLEASE NOTE that participants will be sent a direct payment link to pay for their entry once accepted into the show**
3. All entries will be reviewed prior to install. We aim to make this gallery welcoming to all. For questions or concerns before applying, please email ([email protected])
