Jurors:
Serving as jurors for the submitted works are nationally and internationally recognized ceramist and educator, Valerie Zimany, Chair of the Clemson University department of Art and nationally and internationally recognized ceramist and educator, Daniel Bare.

Eligibility: Media Selection Works submitted for this exhibition, limited to three 3 per artist, should push the boundaries of ceramic surfaces using ceramic tile and or ceramic mosaic (and some glass) to narrate the vision of the artist, offering a platform to embrace their interpretation of the Exhibition theme: Illustrating the complex history of the textile industry in South Carolina.

This is a NEW WORK in 2023 exhibition based on the theme of the exhibition: Illustrating the complex history of the textile industry in South Carolina.

Works may be two or three dimensional,suitable for wall mounting or sitting on a flat surface if being made available for sale. Art works may consist of a choice of free form shapes or individual tiles, panels of molded tiles in relief, bas relief, cuenca, cuerda seca, glazed, un-glazed, hand painted or fired decals as well as broken or cut ceramic mosaic - a percentage of glass and or stone will be accepted in mosaic work. Narrative bricks (using old or hand-made bricks)can be glazed on all surfaces.

Size and shape: Artworks may range in size from 6 x 6 to 36 x 36 in any configuration. However, linear works should not expand beyond 36 inches if they are going to be available for sale.

Works for sale may weigh up to 45 lbs. Tile and mosaic panels should be mounted on lightweight cement board if being made available for sale. Finished art works may be framed or unframed.

All wall pieces available for sale should have a hanging device attached or included when shipped to a buyer. Suggestion: www.zbarhanger.com

All artists are welcome to submit up the three 3 works from each category of the virtual exhibition. In addition, each artwork must have a storyboard, a narrative description of the story being expressed by the artwork. Narratives should be submitted in 12 pt. text in Microsoft Word, not to exceed two short paragraphs in length. The storyboard information will be an integral part of the exhibition.

NOTE: We are anticipating creating a 'virtual' gallery setting for this exhibition as well as an in situ in the No.3 Pottery Gallery in Simpsonville, SC.

Insurance Liability and Shipping for All Loaned Artworks:
While we recommend that you insure your piece(s) for the entire time it is out of your studio, please note, Philadelphia?s Magic Gardens (PMG) will insure all artwork for the duration of the exhibit including pre-hanging and post exhibit packing. These dates are February 22nd through April 23rd. In the event of loss or damage, the artist will be required to provide documentation confirming the value of the work and the extent of the claim. NOTE: All pieces must be shipped in a reusable box including a return label and method of payment for return shipment of unsold or not for sale pieces. Use bubble wrap or shape-form foam to pack. Please DO NOT send your piece packed in loose Styrofoam pebbles or popcorn!

Materials:
Specify carved and or molded tiles, majolica painting, ceramic decals, cuenca and cuerda seca techniques, cut or broken ceramic tile mosaic & glass & glazed brick. Include clay type and firing range if appropriate.

In addition to a narrative description of your piece, include a bio and artist statement.

Sales: Confirm work will be available for sale. Regarding the sale price of artwork, as noted above, THF will retain 50% on work sold during the exhibition dates.15% of the retained funds will go to No.3 Pottery Gallery. Artists are also welcome to further contribute up to 100% of sales to Tile Heritage Foundation end-of-year fundraiser. Purchasers will pay city, county and state sales taxes for Simpsonville SC. In addition, purchasers will pay shipping and insurance of their piece if they are non-local in SC.
