Where do our art materials come from? What impact do they have? How might we use them differently?
The HeArt Box and Azulita Project invite artists working in all mediums to submit original, high-quality work exploring our relationship with materials and resources.
We welcome creative reuse, natural and regenerative materials, fiber arts, earth pigments, and innovative low-impact practices. We also welcome artists working with conventional materials, including acrylics, plastics, and petroleum-based products, who are willing to question their choices and consider alternatives.
You don’t have to use recycled or natural materials to participate. We ask that you think critically about your materials, where they come from, and how you use them.
Re-Source is presented in partnership with Azulita Project, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower community action to prevent and reduce plastic waste. Re-Source Exhibition will serve as a fundraising opportunity for Azulita.
Plastic pollution is a global problem that affects all communities. Because plastic is deeply embedded in our daily lives—including many of the materials artists use—Re-Source asks us to consider not only the waste we can see, but also the resources, systems, and choices behind the things we make and consume.
