Visual artists have long found inspiration in the grind and grace of domestic life. This open call to visual artists inspired by the clothesline, hand washing and line drying, clothesline games and memories, and the environmental impact of taking in the wash. All visual media are welcome, including painting, drawing, sculptures, mixed media and digital art -- imagery can be literal, figurative or abstract.

The artworks will be featured in the exhibition entitled Clothesline Musings | Art inspired by the Clothesline, at the Painted Bride Art center in Philadelphia, PA. This exhibition will run in tandem with the premiere of The Clothesline Muse, a multi-disciplinary theatrical production that explores the clothesline as a metaphor of our community lifeline and its ties to our environment (www.theclotheslinemuse.com).

The artwork will be curated by a panel of art professionals. Art that is not selected for the Clothesline Musings | Art inspired by the Clothesline will be considered for the online exhibition which will be featured on The Clothesline Muse website, a platform for artist exposure and an opportunity to take part in a virtual discussion around clothesline-inspired art.

Artists selected for Clothesline Musings and/or online exhibition will be notified via email by February 14, 2014.

Specifications:

Artists are asked to create artwork no larger than a 5' x 4' format.
Seeking digital art and video projections (with audio or silent) that can be looped, 10 minutes or less
Sculptures must weigh no more than 10 lbs.
Works of art must be ready for show - framed and/or presentable for display and wired for hanging
For artist promotion, each submission must include: Title, Artist Name, Location, Medium, Date, Price, 250 word biography

Artists must submit a high-resolution digital image of their submission via EntryThingy. The entry fee is $5. Your entry will not be valid until your payment is received. Please click the PayPal button to proceed.

Sales:

Artists will receive 70% of their asking price if their work is purchased through the exhibition. The Gallery will receive the remaining 30%. Please price your pieces accordingly.

Alternatively, artists can choose to label the artwork not for sale (NFS).

Please note the following if selected:

Art Drop off date:
Philadelphia-based artists must drop off their pieces at The Painted Bride on March 3 or 4, 2014, between the hours of 12 noon-6pm. If you cannot make it on these days, please have art shipped by March 1, 2014 (see below).

Art Pick up date:
Pick up will be at the same location on April 14, 2014 from 10am - 5pm.

Out of Town Art Submissions:
Selected artists who are submitting work outside of the Philadelphia area or who cannot drop their work off at the specified place and time will be responsible for shipping their pieces to The Painted Bride (30 Vine St, Philadelphia, PA 19106) by March 1, 2014 AND providing a self addressed prepaid postage and packing materials with a return shipping address. Please do not send artwork ahead of time as we have limited storage space.
