The William and Florence Schmidt Art Center is currently accepting submissions for its 2028 & 2029 Exhibition Season. Local, regional, and national artists (individuals and groups) working in 2- and 3-dimensional mediums, as well as installation art, are invited to submit their work for consideration. Solo, group, and/or themed shows will be curated based on the content, quality, and number of submissions. Established, mid-career, and emerging artists are encouraged to apply.
Spanning 6500 square feet, the William and Florence Schmidt Art Center, located on the Belleville campus of Southwestern Illinois College, facilitates visual literacy through exhibitions of art and cultural artifacts while igniting inspiration, imparting knowledge, and fostering connections between the college and the local community.
Throughout the year, the Schmidt Art Center presents an array of exhibits featuring artwork created by established professionals and emerging artists from the metro area and beyond. The center also hosts cultural events, collaborating with professional artists, poets, and musicians. With a collection of over nine hundred works, the Schmidt Art Center holds the most extensive art collection of any two-year college in Illinois, encompassing paintings, photographs, sculptures, and artifacts. The entry fee is $35 for individual or group submissions.
A panel of accomplished artists and art professionals will jury applications based on originality, artistic merit, craftsmanship, and potential for community engagement. Artists are responsible for shipping fees and insurance, and all work must be suitably framed and ready to hang or install. Sales are encouraged with a 20% commission to the Art Center and 80% retained by artists. The Art Center will list work for sale on their website during the exhibit period.
