Art as Civic Voice is an open, NON-JURIED exhibition for works of all mediums. Each artist may submit a maximum of 2 works.
*All ELIGIBLE works are accepted by default. You will be notified if your submissions are NOT eligible.*
In celebration of the United States Semiquincentennial, Art as Civic Voice invites artists to consider the role of creative expression within public life. This exhibition seeks works that engage with art as a form of civic participation, social dialogue, and reflection.
Artists are encouraged to interpret “civic voice” broadly. Submissions may explore:
- The history, people, and evolving identity of Philadelphia
- The role of art in shaping or responding to democratic processes, governance, and public discourse
- How visual culture influences political thought and activism
- Art as a tool for social change
- The construction and preservation of collective memory across communities and generations
- Other interpretations
While rooted in this historic year for Philadelphia, this exhibition is not limited to subjects involving the U.S.. Artists may draw from global histories, movements, and perspectives.
Works Not Eligible:
- Works that include discriminatory language or imagery
- Works that promote hostility toward or negatively target a specific community, group, or social movement
- Explicit depictions of violence, including graphic imagery or content intended to provoke harm, or depictions that prominently feature weapons
- Works that promote a specific religious doctrine or agenda
The Philadelphia Sketch Club reserves the right to decline any work that is deemed inconsistent with the spirit of the exhibition.
Works Eligible: Submitted pieces must explore the theme of Art as Civic Voice, and may be 2D or 3D in any medium. All works MUST be framed and wired to hang. Works may not exceed 40” in any dimension, including frame. All work, including 3D, must arrive at the PSC ready to be hung, securely wired with eyehooks (we cannot accommodate large freestanding sculpture). Weight may not exceed 30 lbs. All work must be offered for sale. The PSC takes a 25% commission on all sales. All work must be original and not previously shown at the PSC. Please include potential shipping cost in price.
