Painted ORCAS Public Art Juried Exhibition

Application Requirements:

*At least 18 years old and a resident of WA State.

*Professional artists, or artist teams, only.

*Statement of interest (why you want to do this project and why your proposal should be selected). All documents must be in Word or PDF format.

*Artist resume.

*Brief description of how you plan to embellish the blank.

*Artist Contact Information.

Artist Selection Criteria:

*Selection of work is based foremost upon demonstrated artistic merit.

*Selection is also based on artistic themes that are colorful, fun-loving, and appropriate in concept and content for display in a public location.

*The jury will consider a variety of genres, as well as the geography and cultural diversity of our region.


Recommendations for artists in application of art materials:

*Selected Orcas will be outdoor public art, on display for about 6 months annually, from May through October. They will then head indoors into storage until next Spring.

*Materials need to be waterproof and fade-resistant (note: all completed Orcas will be treated by us with water proof clear coat spray and UV protection).

*Orca blanks can accept acrylic paint or lacquer based paint (such as Krylon spray paint.) The use of enamel-based or water color paint may not be sufficiently weather resistant. Artist discretion advised.

*If you embellish your Orca with objects such as shells or sea glass, use marine silicone glue (such as Marine Goop).

*If you decorate with tile or glass mosaics, use a waterproof tile glue.

*An example of a similar art project in the greater Seattle area: In 2014, Kirkland launched an art project using salmon as their fish of choice. We were inspired by their project and their art pieces produced. Note: Important information about submitting entries: Artists will submit TWO entries.

Entry ONE will be used to submit up to 5 images of your previous work samples that relate to this type of project. List name of work and year (e.g. Jane Artist, title of work, 2016). Each image must be in JPEG format and no larger than 2MB in size.

Entry TWO will be used to submit an image of your sketch showing your vision of the finished piece. In other words, entry TWO is your proposal. Note, if you choose to submit another proposal, just submit it as an additional image within entry TWO.

Additional notes:

*Each artist, or artist team, may submit up to three distinct proposals in a single entry and artists may have one or more proposals accepted.

*There is no fee for artist submissions.

*Finished products will become the property of the Richmond Beach Community Association.

*Selected artists will be responsible for the pick up and hand-delivery of the completed art pieces, at a time and location in Shoreline WA to be determined.
