The Public Art Program of the Arts Council of New Orleans announces a Percent For Art Program direct purchase of existing artwork. Selected work will be placed on walls in City facilities including new and existing fire stations and police stations in Orleans Parish. Supported through funds generated by 1% of City of New Orleans’ eligible municipal capital bonds, the Percent For Art Program has evolved over the past 25 years into one that includes commissioned work, acquisition of existing artwork, community outreach and education initiatives.

Eligibility: Artist must reside or have gallery representation in Orleans Parish
Budget: $50,000 total

Project Objectives - To purchase existing artwork that represents the breadth and diversity of artists working in New Orleans. The Percent For Art Collection was established in 1986 and currently includes more than 300 works by more than 225 local artists. The quality and diversity of the Percent For Art Collection represents the strength of the area’s visual artists and celebrates what makes our community unique. It is curated and maintained by the Arts Council of New Orleans, and is available to be viewed online at http://percent.artscouncilofneworleans.org/.

Purchased work will be placed throughout City facilities, specifically in new and existing fire and police stations in Orleans parish. This is a call for 2-D artwork only. All artwork must be original and hand-made. All work must be framed and ready to hang. No giclees or unfinished work will be considered. No more than two images per artist will be considered. All art must be appropriate for public viewing.. A Selection Jury will choose two-dimensional artwork for acquisition based on the available budget of $50,000. It is recommended that individual artwork sale prices should not exceed $5,000 but many purchases selected will probably be at a lower price. Artists are encouraged to price their artwork reasonably and in accordance with their value. Along with selling the original artwork, selected artists must agree to license their image for non-profit and educational uses to the Arts Council of New Orleans and the City of New Orleans.
